winning community support
Bio-solids treatment plant — a regional water authority asked for help in winning community support for a bio-solids treatment site it needed to develop—a plan that had already been strongly opposed and rejected twice in the local area. Clifton’s campaign involved community consultation, media strategy and stakeholder management. The result was that the new plan was accepted without objection.
Railway station redevelopment — Clifton won the bid to provide communications support for the first stage of a major city rail redevelopment, intended to be developed as a public private partnership. This included running all communications to do with the site including community consultation, designing and writing newsletters, designing the website, lifting the profile of the redevelopment and stakeholder management. Community feedback indicated a very positive response.
Water Summit — the state government asked Clifton to help organise and promote a community and industry summit to address ways to conserve and more effectively utilise the state’s water resources. We advised on the program, recruited speakers, developed speeches for the premier and minister and managed media relations for the event. The summit was deemed a success and achieved very positive media coverage.
Neighbourhood amenity — a property development company asked Clifton to help dissuade the state government from proceeding with an option to build a prison close to its proposed residential development. Clifton worked with the local media and local activists to demonstrate community resistance to the option. Our successful outcome was that the government decided to locate the prison elsewhere. In announcing a different site for the prison, the government said its decision had been influenced by community opposition in our client’s area.
Infrastructure development — an international consortium retained Clifton to handle the media communications and community consultation aspects of their bid process. The state government selected the consortium to construct the project and praised its community consultation initiatives.
